Here, There & Everywhere!

This has been one of those weeks that we did a little bit of everything - everyone has those don't they?  We hauled one more boat for the winter, Pete trailered one here for repairs.  The guys are still winterizing boats both here at the shop and at owner's docks.  Here in the office, we had settlement on the Mathews 22' that we had for sale.  In between everything, Pete found time to head up to NJ to look at a boat for an estimate on repairs.  I'm sure that we'll have plenty of those to put estimates in on, unfortunately.   Otherwise, we're gearing up for a cold winter and a Happy Holiday Season!

Yes we Ship!

MathewsBros Delivers Boats!
That's Right!  We've added to our available services with shipping boats!  Pete has just delivered one of our Patriot 29's to its winter home in Florida.  While we try to accommodate our customers as quickly and best as we can, please understand that interstate deliveries cannot be done on last minute notice.  There are a few exceptions but there is a permitting process involved which takes a business day or so to get straight.

While Pete has been on his way to and from Florida, everyone here at the shop has been setting up several boats for the winter work that their owners have requested.  So far we have an AC and generator job set up, several varnish jobs, some refits as well as all of the little things that wear out over time.

Legacy 28' refits & appreciation

While we strive to provide the best quality service that we can for each and every single customer, we are humbled and honored when a customer writes us to show their appreciation.  You'll see a testimonial below from the owner of a Legacy 28' that we did a few things on and then delivered her down to Florida.

"Scout", Legacy 28'

"You can't always build the new boat you want. Sometimes you have to refit an older one, which is what we did with Mathews Brothers. It just makes sense that a builder of great boats would have the range of capabilities to manage a project on any boat. In our case the project included Awlgrip, thru-hulls, varnish, new canvas and an electronics upgrade, all delivered on time and budget. Oh, and the delivery was made in Florida while we oversaw the project from Boston. We had complete faith in the team at Mathews Brothers and we couldn't be happier with the results."

Happy Thanksgiving!

This Holiday week finds us almost completely done shifting boats around from the hurricane and into their respective storage spaces for the winter.  If you've been following our blog you know that we always have a couple of other projects going.  The wooden cruiser that Pete has been working on is coming along very nicely - the new steering system is ready to be installed, the new windshield has been built & all is ready for varnish!  Another big project that we've been working on for some time is a Pearson 35' complete interior & exterior refit with extensive design changes.  The owner is here almost on a weekly basis making final decisions on placement and functionality of the final touches.

Indoor Boat Storage

We have so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving Season - and that Includes all of our Customers - we appreciate your Business & Loyalty!  We Sincerely hope that everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Busy Busy Busy!

Here in the office, Annie and Pete have been busy with brokerage settlements as well as getting contracts signed for new deals!  We currently have contracts on 3 different boats with one of those settlements scheduled for tomorrow.  They had a settlement on the Cape Dory 28, Dreamtime, last week and another settlement already scheduled for next month!!  We have three MathewsBros Boats for sale currently - Who's ready for a NEW one?  FREE Maintenance for 2 years with the purchase of a NEW MathewsBros Boat!!

Outside, in the shop, and in storage the guys are busy preparing for winter between moving boats around into their respective storage spaces and/or winterizing all of the boats that we have for the winter.

Why Winterize your Boat?
Winterizing your boat is an important preventive maintenance process which maintains the integrity of your engine, and any other kind of plumbing you may have aboard.  Winterization prevents damage from water expanding when frozen and also prevents corrosion from damaging anything else over the winter.

Dodgin Bullets & Boats

We sure did dodge a bullet from Sandy!  The most damage that was done to our properties was one of our ramps that go down to the floating pier at the Landing - Pete had to cut it off to prevent the floating dock from getting stuck under the stationary dock and causing havoc.  Meanwhile, the boats that were hauled were all put inside and stayed high and dry for the duration of the storm.  We know that we are very fortunate that the storm made landfall north of us and are very sorry about all of the damage that NY and NJ have experienced.

Haulin Boats!

This Hurricane Sandy coming in sure is stirring up trouble!  We had already pulled a couple of boats this week for winter storage and now due to Sandy, Pete and the guys will be hauling boats all weekend!!  As of this afternoon, the state of Maryland declared a state of emergency so please be careful as this storm arrives!

We are still having our Fall Festival Party tomorrow from Noon to 6 as the storm isn't supposed to reach us until Sunday at the earliest.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful and we're looking forward to seeing everyone!

Finishing UP!

If you've been following us here on our blog you know that we've been working on a Legacy powerboat as well as a Pearson Sailboat.  The legacy is going out for a sea trial today with the owner since the guys are literally putting the last final touches on it as I type this.  The Pearson's owner is here today and is very pleased with the boat.  The cabin is coming along nicely with the head nearly finished, the doors & drawers on all of the lockers, speakers in, floor base in, headliner in, galley faucet in - Almost There!!

Save the Date!

While the weather was pretty crappy last year for our Fall Festival, we still had a great turn out and had a fun time! This year Entertainment will be provided by Mike Butler and the Lite Fare will be provided by Annie & her Sisters, Tina & Carol.  We're hoping the weather will be much better this year and we're hoping to see you!

Refits to a Legacy 29

Legacy 29

We're nearing the end of another project on this Legacy 29.  She got another coat of varnish this morning and the guys are measuring for thru hulls to be ordered later today.  Along with new varnish and thru hulls, she's gotten an all new Awlgrip paint scheme and will have new canvas before she leaves the shop later this month.  Once we're finished all of these pieces to the boat, Pete will be trucking her down to Florida for the owner!!

Major Sailboat Refit

The guys are busy in the shop putting the final touches on a major refit to a Pearson 35'.  The owners of the boat are planning on taking long range trips beginning next year and wanted to modify the boat to make it more user friendly as well as more low maintenance.  The result?  An entirely different looking boat!  She's got all new deck hardware, a smaller cockpit, a boomkin, all new paint, nonskid, less teak (low maintenance), more locker space, a new head, galley and nav. station plus just so much more!!

Looking Forward to Focsle

New Comet Mold

The Comet Class came to Pete wanting to make a new deck mold to help update the racing sloop and make it more modern to perhaps draw a younger crowd.  The guys in the shop will finish buffing the plug this morning and get a good layer of wax on her so that they can begin the mold this afternoon with gel coat.  The guys will then build the mold up with layers of fiberglass.  The mold should be completed by the end of next week so that hopefully the first boat can be turned out by the end of the month - Stay Tuned for pictures of the progress!!

Wooden Cruiser

Pete has been restoring a 1956 Wooden Cruiser this past week and a bit.  It had some areas of rot which he stripped and is in the process of replacing.  All of the clamps you see below is from putting a rub rail on.  Once he's finished replacing all of the problem areas, next up will be varnish to have her looking Beautiful Once Again!

"Madeline" is in New Hands!

From New York to Rock Hall, MD is the trip that the New Owners of Madeline will be making as much as they possibly can!  This couple from New York very happily purchased one of our Beautiful 40's earlier this month and want to get as much time on the boat as they can.  This couple had seen Madeline several times at Boat Shows and just absolutely love the boat - So much so that they're leaving her name Madeline and are leaving her in Rock Hall.
